Thian Hock Keng Temple
Thian Hock Keng Temple is the oldest Hokkien temple in Singapore.
It started as a humble shrine dedicated to Ma Zhu, the goddess of seafarers, in 1821.
With funds raised from the Hokkien community, the present structure was constructed between 1839 and 1842.
It was built in the style typical of southern Chinese temples and became one of the most important places of worship
for the Hokkiens.
The temple received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2001.
Please be advised to dress modestly if you are visiting this place of worship.
