Maghain Aboth Synagogue
The very first synagogue in Singapore was built in the 1840s at Synagogue Street.
The Jewish community was later given a parcel of land by the government to build a new synagogue.
Named Maghain Aboth, the new synagogue at Waterloo Street was completed by 1878.
It is the oldest extant synagogue in
Southeast Asia.
Maghain Aboth Synagogue was gazetted as a national monument on 27 February 1998.
Please be advised to dress modestly if you are visiting this place of worship.
There is another synagogue (Chesed El Synagogue) in Singapore but it is not open to the general public.
