St. Andrew's Cathedral
The piece of land that St. Andrew's Cathedral is located on was originally reserved in 1823 for a church by Sir Stamford Raffles.
The first St. Andrew's Church was designed by colonial architect George Coleman in the neoclassical style and built in 1835.
However, after being struck by lightning twice, the church was closed and eventually demolished in 1855.
Construction of the present day church began in 1856.
It was designed in the Neo-Gothic architectural style and built by Indian convicts.
St. Andrew's Cathedral was gazetted as a national monument in 1973.
Please be advised to dress modestly if you are visiting this place of worship.
