Sri Mariamman Temple
Founded in 1827, Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple.
The original temple was a simple wooden structure.
The existing brick structure of the present building dates back to 1843.
Building expansion was a slow process as additions and alterations were made to the temple through the years.
Today, the temple is an iconic landmark in Chinatown and is a major tourist attraction.
Sri Mariamman Temple was gazetted as a national monument in 1973.
Please be advised to dress modestly if you are visiting this place of worship.
