Vaccinations

Vaccinations are generally not required when traveling to Singapore unless you are traveling from or pass through a country endemic for yellow fever 6 days prior to arriving in Singapore of which you will need to furnish a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Countries endemic for yellow fever are:-

Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Columbia, Congo, Cote d’Ivorie, Democratic Rep of Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guyana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Rep of Tanzania and Venezuela.

The International Certificate of Vaccination for yellow fever is valid for 10 years 10 days after vaccination. Do visit www.ica.gov.sg for the latest country listing.

For your own health and an enjoyable travel, it is always a good practice to check with your doctor prior to traveling on any vaccination requirements.

Medical Care

Medical care in Singapore is one of the best in the region. In 2006, there were 13 public hospitals and speciality centres as well as 16 private hospitals providing a total of 11,545 beds achieving a ratio of 2.6 beds per 1000 total population.

Full fledge private hospitals in Singapore are equipped to provide general and specialised treatments.

All health care professionals in Singapore are registered with relevant governing agencies (namely, Singapore Medical Council, Singapore Nursing Board, Singapore Dental Board, Singapore Pharmacy Board and Contact Lens Practitioners Board).

There are 18 polyclinics and more than 2000 private medical clinics in Singapore.

Clinics and pharmacies are easily located in most shopping malls and residential areas. Should the need arise to consult a doctor, just ask the hotel staff where you are staying at or any locals for directions and they will be more than willing to show you the way.
