Singapore Philatelic Museum
Singapore Philatelic Museum is the first philatelic museum in Southeast Asia.
Set up to promote
interest in philately, the museum opened its doors on 19 August 1995.
The building was formerly part of Anglo-Chinese School and was used as a Methodist Book Room in
the 1970s until it was restored as the present museum.
The museum also boasts the only functional red pillar posting box used during colonial days in Singapore.
Filled with more than 11,000 philatelic artefacts, the museum is an eye-opener for both stamp
and non-stamp collectors alike.
Visitors can learn about Singapore's history and culture through the museum's collection of letters,
stamps and other philatelic items ranging from as early as the days of the Straits Settlements to
present day Singapore.
Besides permanent exhibitions, the museum's theme galleries also have changing exhibitions throughout the year.
