Night Life
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so when the sun sets, it is time for Jack to come out and play! When it
comes to nightlife in Singapore, you are spoilt for choice. You can choose to party, shop, eat, catch a movie or even
go on the Night Safari.
If you decide to party, where can you go? For starters, you can check out the iconic Zouk at
Jiak Kim Street. Named after the French creole word for "party", Zouk has three clubs and a wine bar, and often has
international DJs spinning in the clubs.
Those familiar with UK super club Ministry of Sound will be pleased to know
they have also set up shop right here in Singapore. Located conveniently in Clarke Quay, it is one of the world's biggest
Ministry of Sound establishments.
Then there is St. James Power Station, a former coal-fired power plant
turned giant entertainment complex. With a whooping 10 clubs, there is a dance tune for everyone.
If you prefer to chill out to good music with just a cold beer in a small pub, there are plenty of pubs along the Singapore
River or Orchard Road, some with live bands.
How about belting out the latest pop tunes to your captive audience (a.k.a your friends who have no choice but to listen
to you sing!)? Look for karaoke pub chains like KBox
or Party World KTV to satisfy the inner Singapore Idol wannabe.
For those who dread smelling like an ash tray after a night of partying will be pleased to know that smoking is not
allowed in nightspots in Singapore, unless these places have approved smoking rooms or corners.
Perhaps you prefer to let your hair down in other ways besides drinking and dancing. Many of the cinemas located in the
town area offer late night showings during weekends and public holidays.
If you prefer to do some shopping, Mustafa Centre in Little India is open 24 hours. Some shopping malls along Orchard Road
are open till 11pm on Saturdays.
For night dining, savour Singapore's local delights at eating places such as Lau Pa Sat, Newton Food Centre or
Gluttons Bay which stay open till the wee hours. These places are
very popular with party-goers seeking nourishment after a night of hard partying.
If you are in the mood for something a little different, why not check out the Night Safari
at the Singapore Zoo?
And before you know it, the sun has risen, signalling the start of a brand new day.
