Singapore Top National Pastime
Food is serious business in Singapore, as it should be seeing as eating is our top national pastime.
The tiny island is a gourmet paradise.
Alongside the usual Chinese, Malay and Indian cuisines, there are a whole lot of other international
flavours to appease even the pickiest of eaters.
Sweat it out with the locals and savour the mouth-watering local favourites at non-airconditioned hawker centres. Put on
something smart and join the well-heeled in any of the many fine dining establishments.
Chill out with a delicious dessert or a cup of tea at a café and indulge in a spot of people watching. Whatever your
palate craves, there is bound to be something to satisfy it.
It does not matter whether you are hungry at 3pm or 3am, there is always an eatery open somewhere to soothe your hunger
pangs. That is how serious we are about food!
If you are a food lover, one of the best times to visit Singapore is between June and July each year when the annual
Singapore Food Festival takes place. Before you visit, make sure you check out
Makansutra, the long undisputed food bible of Singapore.
