Chinese Heritage Centre
The former Nanyang University is the first and only Chinese university outside China to be founded by the Chinese overseas.
Thus, it is only befitting that the Chinese Heritage Centre is located in the Administration Building of the former university.
The centre was established in 1995 to promote understanding of overseas Chinese communities in various parts of the world.
It is the first centre to specialise in the study of Chinese communities outside China.
Besides being an excellent research resource centre for scholars and researchers, the centre also has on exhibit - Chinese
More Or Less: An exhibition on Overseas Chinese Identity.
Covering some 6,000 sq feet, the exhibit explores the Chinese
Identity and the theme of "Chinese-ness". It looks at what being Chinese means, and whether one can quantify how Chinese one is.
If you are interested in the history of the former Nanyang University, check out the Nantah Pictorial Exhibition which traces
the 25-year history of the institution.
Take some time to admire the undeniably Chinese architecture of the building which was gazetted as a national monument in 1998.
Complete the tour with a stroll in the pictureseque Yunnan Garden that is just outside the centre.
