Chinese and Japanese Garden
The Chinese Garden was designed by well-known Taiwanese architect, Prof Yuen-Chen Wu, and built in 1975.
The design of the garden is modelled after the Imperial Song style of architecture.
Architectural elements reminiscent of the Beijing Summer Palace have also been reproduced here.
It is not hard to imagine you are in ancient China when taking a stroll through the grounds.
Highlights of the Chinese Garden include the Bonsai Garden, Garden of Abundance, and the Live Turtle and Tortoise
Museum. Mid-Autumn Festival sees the garden holding a lantern display which is very popular with the locals.
From the Chinese Garden, cross the majestic Bridge of Double Beauty to arrive at the Japanese ‘Seiwaen’ Garden.
In contrast to the grand Chinese Garden, the Japanese Garden has simplicity in its design; abstract and minimalistic.
Adopting gardening techniques from the Japanese Muraomachi (1392 – 1568) and Momoyama (1568 – 1615) period, a contrasting
traditional Japanese garden is built in vibrant and busy Singapore.
Trees, plants, stones, rocks and lanterns shipped from Japan further enhance the tranquility of the surroundings to that of a true
Zen Garden.
