Chinatown Heritage Centre
Step back in time at the Chinatown Heritage Centre and experience the life of the Chinese migrants during the olden days.
Located in three authentically restored shop houses along Pagoda Street, the museum tells the history of the Chinese community
in Singapore.
Each of the museum's three levels focuses on a different time period in Chinatown's history.
The museum's 15 galleries also showcase the rich cultures and traditions of Singapore's early Chinese.
The first level shows how life during the olden days was like where everyone lived in rented cubicles from shop houses and
business areas doubled up as sleeping quarters during the night.
Learn about the vices (gambling, opium smoking, prostitution and secret societies) that many indulged in the past on level two.
On level three, catch a glimpse of Chinatown in its heyday in the 1950s.
Experience the dark and cramped living conditions of the coolies, Samsui women and other Chinese migrants.
Pick up a souvenir at the retail shop and have a cup of coffee at the kopitiam before you leave.
